In Fall, 2013, CancerToday magazine chose to focus their Survivor Profile on Jack Whelan, WM patient and cancer patient advocate, and his approach to life in the face of diagnosis with an incurable disease. As the story reveals, Jack was a passionate booster for research, clinical trials, and affordable treatments.
NOTE: Sadly, however, Jack was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in 2016, and passed away in 2017, after a courageous battle, where he again focused on the science behind finding the best way to treat his new disease, and sought out the most promising options at the time for his condition. We salute Jack for his many years of volunteer service and advocacy for the IWMF, and for the worldwide cancer patient community.
For an extended description of Jack’s world view and how he chose to face living with WM, see the full article in CancerToday (Fall 2013) - "Betting on Science".
